Annual Meeting of the Central Bank GS1 User Group

In Dresden, representatives from 7 European national banks, the ECB and colleagues from the national GS1 organisations shared each other's experience in using the GS1 Standards for efficient cash handling processes once again.

The group decided to set up a harmonised list of article numbers to bring forward the cross-national use of GTINs. Whenever two central banks both need a GTIN for an article, the Central Bank GS1 User Group will ask the ECB for a common article number, so professional cash handlers can use the same GTINs in different countries.

A survey conducted by the Central Bank GS1 User Group shows the current extent in which the GS1 Standards are applied by the interviewed central banks. GS1 in Germany will merge the results with a former GS1 survey. The results will be available on this website soon.
